Discover the Verdon from the Var side!
The South Rim of the Verdon is a land of endless experiences waiting to be discovered, whether you are looking for outdoor leisure activities, sporting adventures, unspoilt nature, spectacular scenery or authentic Provençal terroirs.
Enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of Lakes Sainte-Croix and Artignosc, whose calm waters create a serene environment outside the summer season. In the heart of summer, they become ideal playgrounds for water sports and leisure activities. Fishing is also widely enjoyed here.
Travel along the Corniche Sublime and stop at the Col d’Illoire viewpoint. From here, you will stand above Europe’s largest canyon, carved by the Verdon River. Eye level with the vultures soaring overhead, exceptional panoramic views over majestic landscapes make this route a truly unforgettable experience.
In the Artuby Pre-Alps, striking mountain landscapes unfold before you. This authentic destination is perfect for hiking enthusiasts and history lovers alike, thanks to the legendary Route Napoléon that crosses the region. Here, visitors are charmed by the tranquillity and authenticity of local life.
The villages nestled in the hills of Haut-Var invite visitors to wander and embrace the Provençal art of living. The local terroir is renowned for black and summer truffles, whose secrets can be discovered at the Maison de la Truffe in Aups. Olive oil also takes pride of place along the Olive Route, while wine lovers can explore estates bearing the “Vignobles & Découvertes” label.
In terms of heritage, several of our villages proudly hold prestigious labels: Aups is listed among the “100 Most Beautiful Detours in France” as well as the “Villages of Character of the Var”, just like neighbouring Villecroze. Tourtour, meanwhile, belongs to the exclusive circle of the “Most Beautiful Villages in France”.
Just two hours from Nice or Marseille, the South Rim of the Verdon, its lakes and its gorges offer a captivating destination to enjoy throughout the year.
