In 1917, a group of English women took hold of a soccer ball and changed history. Blending object theater with a collective epic, *Ladies Football Club* celebrates the power of community and women’s right to choose their place in the world. NEW PRODUCTION 2026

Adapted from Stefano Massini’s novel, *Ladies Football Club* tells the story of the founding of one of England’s first women’s soccer teams. With the men away at the front, eleven women take to a field that wasn’t meant for them. Through their matches, a broader struggle takes shape: the struggle for freedom, free will, and emancipation.

The regional theater company La Robe à l’Envers blends storytelling, object manipulation, and audience interaction in a performance space designed to resemble a stadium, a circus, and a public square. Soccer balls, figurines, and repurposed objects bring to life an epic tale that is both humorous and relevant today. A 2026 production hosted in residence and co-produced by Le PÔLE, the show subtly explores what drives us to change together, despite established rules.
