Presentation

Just a short walk from the village of Seillans, discover a place filled with history and spirituality. During this guided tour organised by the Tourist Office, explore the Chapelle Notre-Dame de l’Ormeau and the remarkable heritage treasures preserved within its walls.
Nestled in a peaceful green setting at the entrance of the village, the Chapelle Notre-Dame de l’Ormeau is one of the oldest witnesses to the history of Seillans. Built in the 12th century, it has stood the test of time while preserving a calm and authentic atmosphere that invites visitors to pause, explore and reflect.

During this guided tour, you will discover the many treasures hidden within this discreet yet remarkable place: a Roman cippus dating back to Antiquity, a fragment of a paleochristian chancel, ex-votos that reflect centuries of local devotion, and a statue of the Virgin that recalls the spiritual vocation of the sanctuary.

The highlight of the chapel, however, is undoubtedly its magnificent Marian altarpiece from the 16th century, inspired by the Florentine Renaissance. Unique in Provence, this remarkable altarpiece is both painted and sculpted, creating a rare combination of artistic techniques and rich iconography. The elegance of its composition and the finesse of its details make it a true masterpiece of regional religious heritage.

Beyond its artworks, the chapel also tells the story of the village and its people. Traditions, acts of faith and moments of local history gradually unfold through the guide’s explanations, offering a deeper understanding of this cherished place.

Blending heritage, art and spirituality, this guided visit is an invitation to travel back in time and discover one of the most precious and atmospheric sites in Seillans.
