La forme d'une ville is a title Julien Gracq borrowed from a poem by Baudelaire. Both evoke those urban transformations that surprise or disappoint the visitor after a long absence. It's a familiar experience for us, because the city is par excellence the place of change. These changes often jolt our memories. But they can also resurrect a forgotten past or suggest a new way of experiencing the city.
