Between the classroom and the high school hallways, teenage desires take shape, clash, and search for the words to give them voice.
With *Feel the Lightning Under My Skin*, Catherine Verlaguet crafts a declaration of love for adolescence, filled with passion, humor, and burning questions.
Jo, originally from Réunion, is a French teacher in Marseille. She loves this age when everything seems possible. In her classroom, desires, rebellions, and relationships with others are expressed with intensity—until the day a discussion about sexuality and consent brings a buried trauma to the surface. Faced with a student’s silence, Jo recognizes her own.
Drawing on interviews with high school students from Réunion and mainland France, the play weaves connections between gender-based and sexual violence, personal memory, and colonial legacy. Performed by two actresses, the production blends theater, music, and landscapes inspired by Réunion in a sensitive and embodied form.
