“You will not burn my works.” When Jeffrey Hatcher, the writer behind "The Mentalist" and "Columbo", turns his hand to history, he delivers a gripping theatrical thriller in which art, truth, and manipulation clash.
1941. Paris is under occupation. Pablo Picasso is summoned by Mademoiselle Fischer, a German cultural attaché tasked with organizing an exhibition of “degenerate art” that is to culminate in a book burning. For Picasso, the goal is to save his paintings. A tense confrontation ensues between a rebellious, uncompromising Picasso, brimming with confidence in his talent—“At age 12, I was already painting like Rembrandt”—and a brusque, inscrutable Mademoiselle Fischer, who later becomes more ambiguous. A relentless, fierce, and visceral behind-closed-doors drama about artistic freedom in the face of the rigid doctrine of totalitarianism, where plot twists keep the suspense alive until the final twist. Surprising.
