The waterway highlights the way Fontigon canal used to work 500 years ago. The aqueduct was built to allow for a regular water inlet : this was crucial to the well functioning of the wheat meal, the washhouse as well as the town hall fountain. It enabled Ampus inhabitants to irrigate fields and gardens as well as cater for themselves. Later on, a metal pipe was set : it was linking Fontigon canal to a turbine which was itself linked to a dynamo you still can see inside the wheat mill. The village wheat mill was built in the XVth century. For the inhabitants, it was nearer than the former one in Moulin Vieux area.
The waterway, a marked hiking trail, leads you throughout the village.
