Opera - *Le Tour d'Écrou* - *Opéra Hors les murs*

This is the story of the struggles of a young schoolteacher who, on an estate cut off from the world, fights to free the children in her care from the influence of the ghosts of their former servants.

The young woman herself is on the verge of succumbing to the strange manifestations of the living dead who haunt the children. This suspenseful plot—a first for the opera—in which innocence and corruption, possession and exorcism are played out in the most complete ambiguity, inspires Britten to compose incantatory music. The result is captivating in its simplicity and dramatic impact.
