Presentation

WRECKAGE STORY:
In 1943, this versatile aircraft (fighter, bomber, escort...) made its appearance in Europe. It was assigned to escort the B-17 and B-24 bombers attacking Germany. By 1945, 4,950 enemy aircraft had been shot down by the P-51 Mustang.
Laid flat on the sand at a depth of 56 m, the US Air Force fighter finished its run in the sea on August 12, 1944, east of the Giens peninsula. Its pilot, John Daniels, was captured by the Germans and sent to a satag. This story is also told in the Bruce Willis film "Mission Evasion".
The main interest of this wreck is the cockpit, which is in excellent condition. This is a dive for experienced divers only.
