Presentation

With an exceptional panorama of the Var coast, the memorial is equipped with the latest advances in historical research and new technologies to immerse the visitor in the heart of the Provence landings and the events of the summer of 1944.

The Mount Faron Memorial was inaugurated by General de Gaulle on August 15, 1964 to honor the memory of the men and women involved in the D-Day landings and the liberation of Provence. Contrary to the battle of Normandy, which was mainly led by American troops, it was General de Lattre de Tassigny's B army that was in charge of the two biggest battles of the Provence campaign, Toulon and Marseille. This contribution to the war effort ensured a role and a place for France in the post-war world of nations, and the construction of the Mount Faron Memorial is the symbol of national pride, France liberated by itself.

50 years after its opening, President Hollande wanted the Mount Faron Memorial to be revamped in order to pay a fitting tribute to all those who took part in the event and came from all walks of life to liberate France: the Free French, the soldiers from Africa, the Resistance fighters and the Allies.

The new museographic tour of the Provence landing has 600 m² of exhibition space in which 200 collection objects and numerous multimedia supports are brought together to facilitate the understanding of this historical event little known to the general public.

A place of reflection, transmission and teaching, the memorial also provides a room dedicated to hosting educational workshops.
