Presentation

Henri Flotte was born in Sanary in 1891 to a very old family.
It is therefore quite naturally, that he retired, studied and classified the municipal
archives with Barthélemy Rotger, historian and scholar. To give them a suitable place, he bequeathed his property to the commune to "establish the house of archives and reading". This was accepted by the City Council on 26 March 1986, very shortly after his death on 11 December 1985.
In the 1990s, the "Maison Henri-Flotte" became Sanary's cultural centre with the installation of old archives, a reading room and the provision of two exhibition rooms for regional artists. The vault on the ground floor is the trace of an old boat slipway, as can be seen in some of them on the quay.

Today, thanks to the construction of an important media library, all the written heritage of the municipality has been grouped together under the best conditions of conservation and opened to the general public and researchers. Maison Henri-Flotte remains a living cultural place, in homage to the memory of this pioneer.
