"Les pointus"

"Les pointus"

Nestling in the heart of the village, this small fishing port, typically Provencal, is one of the last on the Var coast. It is one of those picturesque places where you can enjoy walking, eating out and savouring the authentic charm of Provence.

Presentation

An open-air setting, the Port of Sanary, regularly classified as one of the most beautiful ports in France, is home to one of the largest fleets of Mediterranean fishing boats, known as "Pointus".
Of very old origins (Provençal, Catalan, Sicilian, or Ligurian), they were used for trammel fishing (net) or longline fishing (bottom line). The Provençal trays called "pointus" are Latin sailing and rowing boats.
These boats are classified as Historic Monuments and boats that have received the "Boats of Heritage Interest" label from the Maritime and River Heritage Foundation.

The B.I.P label represents an official recognition of the heritage interest of a ship. In Sanary, there are more than 35 Boats of Heritage Interest and 1 boat classified as Historic Monuments.

During the city's flagship events, the Association des Pointus de Sanary takes you aboard these small boats for a visit of the bay !
