Les mines de Vallaury

UTM coordinates: 32T 0300 948 / 48 02 6081
Start 1.6 km from downtown Le Plan de la Tour. Take the D44, then at the La Buon Aigo housing estate, follow the Chemin des Cigales towards the city stadium playground.
From the parking lot, turn right onto the gravel path, which climbs steeply.
At the intersection, turn left onto the E743 track [ > A mine entrance on the right] which climbs for 1.6 km.
At the crossroads, turn right onto track E744 for 230 m.
Go right up the gravel path to the viewpoint
[ > Panorama over the Gulf of Saint-Tropez, the Pointe du Rabiou and the peaks of Saints Peire (403m) and Sébastien (333m)] (250 m outward/return) Return to the viewpoint.
Turn right onto the E744 track and reach a crossroads (cistern).
Turn left onto the path, which is stony in places, eroded and gullied, and descends the slope.
[From point 5, walk about 300 m to see the Victor mine entrance on the left].
Continue downhill to join the Marri Vallat valley (intermittent stream). [Old mining slag heap, Berenguier mine on right].
Turn left onto a dirt track lined with cyst, heather and myrtle. Pass a cottage and come to the ruins of the hamlet of Les Martins, a reminder of bygone days in the hills. Then climb a few steep slopes to reach the crossroads.
Take the right-hand track back to point 2.
Rejoin the starting parking lot.
