From the Verdon to Collobrières: the long march of the Vallier Maquis, by Mr Jean-Marie Guillon.

On Saturday 11 July 2026, from 4.00 pm, come and witness the official handover of the Montauroux placodont skull – a major discovery for our understanding of Triassic marine reptiles. This presentation will be led by Nathalie Bardet, a palaeontologist and research director at the CNRS, and Stephen Giner, a geomorphologist and geosciences specialist. The ceremony will be followed by a tour of the museum and the village.



At 6.00 pm, the two researchers will deliver a joint lecture, offering contrasting perspectives on the circumstances of the discovery, the research carried out on the Montauroux skull and the fascinating history of placodonts, the marine reptiles that inhabited the seas over 200 million years ago. The talk, lasting approximately one hour, will be suitable for all audiences.



The event will take place at the Salle des Mouffus, located at 16 Boulevard Carnot in Collobrières. Admission is free and open to all, with no booking required.


This event is organised by the Collobrières Museum of Geology, Mineralogy and Palaeontology, with the support of the Var Department, the Provence Geopark and DinoFox Museo.
