Presentation

Fréjus is home to a uniquely rich and diverse history and heritage. The town is strongly marked by the Roman era. The Middle Ages are also very present, in the form of the Episcopal Buildings around which the town has developed.

Numerous mansion houses were built in the town in the 17th and 18th centuries, reflecting the taste and elegance so typical of those times. Its many beautiful 19th-century villas stand witness to the birth of the Côte d'Azur as an aristocratic winter holiday destination, while the town's exotic religious buildings serve to remind us that Fréjus was an acclimatisation centre for troops from the French colonies sent to the front in WWI.

Frejus' pedestrian streets, where past and present live side by side in perfect harmony, offer visitors a walk through no less than 20 centuries of history. You can alternatively opt for the special Arts & Crafts itinerary in the historic quarter (Fréjus holds the "Ville et Métiers d’Art" label) or a gentle stroll on the beach or "Etangs de Villepey" marshes. Fréjus is also a "Station Nautique" resort, offering numerous water sports opportunities.
