The Adventures of Prince Ahmed – Lotte Reiniger – 1926 – Germany – B&W
Lotte Reiniger directed the very first animated feature film in the history of cinema.
Inspired by the tales of *One Thousand and One Nights*, particularly “The Flying Horse” and “Aladdin and the Wonderful Lamp,” this film transports viewers to a magical world. The paper-cutout technique, inspired by shadow theater, remains a timeless marvel and a masterpiece of enchantment for young and old alike.
The Friends of FantomUs Company
The music created as a duet for this film blends traditional Eastern instruments with electronic music, transforming, multiplying, and transcending Eastern sounds to better illustrate the film’s magical character. A unique world unfolds—both exotic and utterly surprising—blending the richness of modal music with a modern soundscape, creating a veritable whirlwind of sound.
