Exhibition at the Lavoir Vasserot - Christoff DEBUSSCHERE, Official Painter of the Navy

INIS is an artist known for his mastery of oil painting techniques and his innovative use of typography. His works, rich in texture and color, transcend the traditional boundaries of figurative and abstract art.

His favorite subjects are the atmospheres of unusual places such as ports, old hangars, theaters, and interiors. When it comes to the light that brings them to life, he is also drawn to old airplanes, wrecks of all kinds, and mechanical parts. He always works on location, driven solely by the goal of conveying an immediate, subdued emotion.

A traveling painter, Christoff Debusschere fulfills commissions for paintings from the Élysée Palace and creates portraits of admirals aboard French Navy ships.
“I paint the portrait of light. Everything inspires me. I might be just as drawn to a bouquet of flowers as to a piece of meat on a table—which always surprises my friends. I started out creating ‘bread-and-butter’ works, which certainly sold well. But then I wanted something different—to take risks. I’m absolutely incapable of sitting around doing nothing.”

Christoff Debusscherre received the silver medal and then the gold medal at the Salon des Artistes Français, the Taylor Prize awarded by the Salon d’Automne, the Salon du Bourget Prize, the Minister of Defense Prize, and the Grace of Monaco Prize.
He was appointed Official Painter of the Air Force in 1992, Official Painter of the Navy, and Official Painter of the Army in 1997.
