Fascinated by polyrhythms, choreographer Jan Martens has created this surprising piece—a joyful blend of energy, organized chaos, silences, and sounds—with the fourteen dancers of Carte Blanche, Norway’s national dance company.
Cancel Bertha—an anagram of Carte Blanche—is a daring fusion of sound creation, mathematics, the body, and space. Here, music transcends the realm of hearing: it can be seen, touched, and felt in every gesture. In a rhythmic pattern, the performers generate notes through the sheer force of their movements, transforming their bodies into instruments in their own right. The result is a unique, organic, and visual soundscape that reveals the full richness of their choreographed movements.
