What if Nietzsche turned out to be a musician as well?
Florence Schaaff invites us to discover a little-known side of the philosopher through his works and his passion for music.
The music of the most musical of all 19th-century philosophers is largely unknown.
This concert-event is a French production. Nietzsche’s music is unique, post-Romantic, intimate, spellbinding, dramatic, unsettling, and avant-garde. In a word, free.
Nietzsche placed music at the heart of existence. Famous for his aphorism, “Without music, life would be a mistake, a grueling chore, an exile,” Nietzsche was not only an accomplished pianist but also composed no fewer than 74 musical works!
The Apollonian and Dionysian Quartet showcases pieces for solo piano, chamber music, lieder, and melodramas…
The concert follows the chronological order of the works, and Nietzsche’s commentary (excerpts from his correspondence and autobiographical writings) will guide you throughout this journey.
