As the wind turns
Olivier Marty organizes his work in two phases: firstly, outdoor practice, immersed in the landscape, and secondly, free, abstract research in his Ivry-sur-Seine studio.
Outdoors, he collects sensations and observations, using sketches, small canvases, photographs, videos... On his return to the studio, these collections give impetus to a series of paintings, which seek to create a sensation of space - a breath of air - through the retreat of color in favor of white, or, on the contrary, through the accumulation of color until the surface is saturated. During a stay in Le Brusc in April 2024, the painter produced a dozen large drawings from memory, after returning from walks on the heights of Mont Salva. This set, "La pinède", continued in the studio throughout the following year, comprises forty-five drawings, as many variations on the memory of the mistral and the light of the undergrowth. Part of it is presented here, in dialogue with other evocations of landscapes (Collioure, Rome, Finistère, the Opal Coast...), always situated on the sensitive border between description and abstraction.
