Presentation

Crossing the commune of Hyères is one of the highlights of the V65, as it is largely unaffected by urbanization and its constraints, while still allowing visitors to appreciate unique landscapes.

The detour we're proposing here is an even better way to discover the Hyères landscape. It follows a splendid itinerary: the "Route du Sel", built along the "double tombolo" of l'Almanarre, linking the Giens peninsula with the Tour Fondue site (famous for being the main departure point for the Golden Isles - Port-Cros and Porquerolles).

We recommend starting this itinerary from the large, free parking lot at the archaeological site of Olbia, which you can visit at the same time. The "Salt Route" starts right next to it.
Good to know: the "Route du Sel" is closed to vehicles for most of the year in the off-season (October - April), making it a perfect spot for hikers and bikers alike.

To reach the Tour Fondue from Olbia :

- Take the "Route du Sel" opposite the archaeological site parking lot and follow the Almanarre beach to the Presqu'île de Giens. This road is 4km long and crosses the Pesquiers salt marshes, famous for their flamingo population.

- Once you've reached the peninsula, turn left onto a cycle path that runs for a short distance alongside the route de la Madrague. Continue along this road until you reach a traffic circle.

- Take the third exit signposted "Tour Fondue", where a 1km climb awaits you along the route des Ardannais. Be careful in summer, as traffic is heavy.

- Continue along this road and descend to Tour Fondue, you've arrived.

Now it's up to you to decide whether to continue your adventure to Porquerolles!
