Presentation

The Church of Our Lady of the Assumption is the result of the enlargement in the 16th century of a Romanesque chapel dedicated to Saint Peter. A parish church since 1524, it was a collegiate church from 1653 to 1790. The beautiful wrought iron bell tower was built in 1626. The hour bell dates from 1667 (M.H). The choir (15th/16th century) is in the Gothic style. The large vault was rebuilt in 1756. The high altar (M.H) in polychrome marble dates from 1772. The organs (M.H) were built in 1668 by Charles Royer; the case is in walnut (1668/1669) and was gilded in 1756. There are seven paintings, one of which dates from the 17th century and the other six from the 19th century. Behind a beautifully carved door in the chapel of St Peter is the arm-reliquary of St Peter made of gold and silver plate and gilded copper (1526). This arm-reliquary contains a relic of the Saint's arm (M.H).
