As part of the “HOT WHEELS” writing residency from March 1 to 27, 2027,
the Armand Gatti Library is organizing two book clubs—one at the start and one at the end of the residency.
An author and playwright born in Toulouse in 2000, Sarah Hassenforder writes with a focus on regional contexts, contemporary youth, and the bonds that form within communities. Published notably by “Théâtre Ouvert” and “Editions Blast,” her work explores group dynamics, family legacies, and the languages that shape identities.
Currently in a writing residency at the Armand Gatti Library, she is continuing to work on *HOT WHEELS*.
The play takes us to a junkyard in the heart of a village, where Lizzie and her cousin Eddie come to visit their grandfather, Big Mo. Amid car wrecks, sweltering summers, budding friendships, and memories of an accident that shook their family to its core, the characters search for their place between leaving and putting down roots. Populated by a cast of endearing characters—humans, dogs, pigeons, and rats—*HOT WHEELS* weaves a sensitive chronicle of adolescence and the transition to adulthood. Through this unique setting, Sarah Hassenforder explores the silences passed down through generations, family legacy, attachment to place, and the difficulty of choosing between staying and leaving.
