Artistic Performance "Retable"

Little by little, the painting unfolds, reveals itself, and transforms. With *RETABLE*, Benoit Bottex creates a performance in which image, sound, and projection move forward together, like the stages of a landscape coming into being.

Facing the audience, a large painted triptych unfolds into three panels. Inspired by the conventions of classical painting, it serves as a canvas for a interplay of light and video that brings certain details to life, shifts the colors, and alters the viewer’s perception of the painting. The music, generated by a modular synthesizer and accompanied by the bass clarinet, follows the movements of the projection. At first, the closed painting hints at ornamentation; then it opens to reveal a central landscape traversed by patterns of light and sound. A sensitive and visual performance, where the painting is not merely viewed—it is discovered over time.
