Académie du Var

The Académie du Var, founded under the name of Société des sciences, belles-lettres et arts de Toulon on 18 pluviôse an VIII (February 7, 1800), is a cultural association created in 1800 and recognized as a public utility in 1933. It is part of the Conférence Nationale des Académies des Sciences, Lettres et Arts, under the aegis of the Institut de France. Its aim is to develop, through conferences and publications, literary, historical, scientific and artistic activities, particularly those of interest to the region to which the Var department belongs.
Each year, it publishes a journal containing all the papers presented, as well as the proceedings of a symposium on a theme related to the culture, history and heritage of the Var.
The Académie du Var offers a range of lectures open to the public: sessions grouping several papers on a variety of themes, specialized sessions on subjects of history, science, literature or the fine arts, sessions dealing with a single subject, and annual colloquia.
