Presentation

Christian from the Société des Amis du Vieux Toulon will take you on a historical journey back to 1805, around Toulon's Place d'Armes, and help you relive the life of this district.
While today's Place d'Armes can be summed up as the esplanade flanked on its southern side by the Corderie Royale, created by Vauban, this was not always the case.
This district, which came into being at the time of Louis XIV's expansion of the city and, above all, its arsenal, was rich in monuments.
These were damaged or destroyed by the bombardments that preceded the Provence landings.
Others were moved or razed to the ground during the construction of Toulon's western ring road in the late 1970s.
