Toulon
Toulon is first and foremost an exceptional natural site; a superb semi-circle of white limestone mountains dotted with pine trees, curling around the back of the city then returning inwards to embrace the sea and bay, renowned as one of the most beautiful in Europe.
From the top of the fabulous crow's nest of Mont Faron mountain, the city spreads out in all its beauty – a truly enchanting sight at sunset.
Its Opera House, art museums, thematic museums, elegant Hausmannian architecture, ancient fountains and pretty beaches of the Mourillon quarter make Toulon a genuinely unique touristic and cultural city.
Toulon also boasts a busy and colourful old town, with narrow streets, shaded squares and refreshing, mossy fountains. Cours Lafayette and its Provencal market stalls lead down to the port. Take a boat trip round the bay to discover the military port and warships.
