Presentation

The most beautiful road in France as a route, the most daring as a layout, such is the Route Napoléon. It follows the route taken in March 1815 by the Emperor, who left the Island of Elba, to reach the capital and regain power.

In December 1913, the Abbot Jules Chaperon, a key figure in the historical life of Martroise, had the members of the Syndicat d'Initiatives des Hautes Vallées de l'Artuby et du Jabron adopt a petition asking the public authorities to grant the great Alpine road the exceptional title of "Route Napoléon".

One can also admire in the village, the bust of Napoleon, built by the Abbot Jules Chaperon to commemorate his arrival.
