Carola Dertnig explores everyday, bodily movement in a variety of media. In residence, she draws inspiration from childhood and the Feldenkrais method to rethink corporality and reveal its artistic potential in the visual arts.
Carola Dertnig is a multidisciplinary artist. Through performance, installation, sculpture, painting and many other media, the artist questions the everyday actions and associated monotonous movements that influence our inner bodily perception. In this way, the playful exploration of the possibilities of movement, as experienced in childhood, often fades into the background. During her residency, Carola Dertnig will work on transcribing these childhood movements into her artistic work. Drawing on the Feldenkrais* method, she will explore an alternative understanding of movement and physicality, in order to reveal their artistic potential in the visual arts.
*Feldenkrais Method: a pseudo-scientific practice invented in the 1940s by Moshe Feldenkrais, which involves becoming "aware" of one's body through movement within the body.
through movement in space.
